Flyover Country is an offline mobile application supported by the National Science Foundation for geoscience outreach and data exploration. The app provides access to interactive geologic maps from Macrostrat.org, fossil locations from Neotomadb.org and Paleobiodb.org, Wikipedia references, offline base maps, as well as real-time GPS readings including current location, altitude, speed, and heading. By analyzing specific flight paths and storing relevant map data and points of interest (POI) in advance, Flyover Country displays this information during flights without requiring in-flight Wi-Fi. This selective data downloading results in manageable cache sizes ensuring a comprehensive user experience even without an internet connection.

While Flyover Country is commonly associated with airplane window seats, it also proves beneficial for road trips, hiking adventures, field trips, and geological surveys.
